Tips for successful sunless tanning By Lauren Pauer Dayton Daily News • Exfoliate in the shower, paying special attention to knees, ankles and elbows, which tend to be drier and absorb more color. Exfoliating also prevents skin from flaking off later and giving skin a spotted look. • Moisturize skin with lotion. • Wear a bathing suit, dark clothing or nothing at all — sunless tanning products stain. • When applying, work quickly and evenly, using a little less of the product on knees, ankles and elbows. Apply sunless tanner in a circular motion to help prevent streaking. • Wash hands thoroughly afterwards, paying special attention to palms and fingernails. Consider wearing latex gloves. • Allow at least 30 minutes for your skin to dry. • Avoid for at least three hours, or as directed, water or activities that will make you sweat. • Moisturize your new tan every day. • Reapply every 3 to 5 days, or as directed, to keep your tan. Reapply more often to darken the color. • Remember that sunless tanners do not provide adequate sun protection and should not be used in place of sunscreen. |
